R. Palmer Anyone?

(click on the title to download song)
Really, who didn't want to be him (or one of his dancing girls, ladies)? He sang an incredible song in the 80's. If you haven't heard it, go download it at iTunes (Mudpuppy?). You will find his song as inspiring as I did. And so, I redid it. I did not write any of these lyrics. I merely took my own slant on the tune.
WARNING: Unabashed use of falsetto in this song. Listen at your own risk!
Beneath the fun, there is some really good stuff in this song lyrically speaking. Have at it.
Previous Songs: 1. Train Wreck, 2. Land of Fools, 3. Great Jehovah

So, I listened to yours..then I pulled up the original on youtube to relive my past...then I listened to yours again. My stream of conciousness during this time went something like this:

[while listening to your song the first time]Seth, what have you done!!?? [while listening to the original] Ahhhhh, now I remember. [while listening the second time] Seth is brilliant. He is the David Cook of Common Guild.

Seriously, I think it is great! It took me 2 listens to get here, but I'm a fan.

Thanks gents...

Craig, it took me several attempts to get set the right tone. I played with several variations, none of which seemed quite right. In the end, the more etherial take seemed a good juxtaposition to the more forceful Palmer original. I wanted a more contemplative version. However, I must give Palmer props for his cool dancing girls. Maybe the Guild will put a video together. I have heard that Mudpuppy is skilled in such things...

Seth,

Can I be one of the dancing girls in your video? Your version is pretty awesome. I'll go so far as to say it rivals the original. Until yours, it was difficult to parse out the lyrical genius of Palmer's songs from his suited image with dancing girls in tow. Nice falsetto.

I always thought this song was about cocaine...

I suppose it is possible. However, I've never known a coke addict that thought they were "immune to the stuff." I suppose it's possible.

I keep hearing about marriages falling apart because one partner is addicted to the excitement of love that manifests itself in another way. It really blows... This song keeps morphing in my mind since I redid it.

um,

i think the people you are referring to are either "addicted to lust" or are "addicted to themselves".

marraiges don't fall apart because you love other people. They fall apart because you are selfish or you try to do crap on your own.

in yo face.
