Visual Wednesday-Obama Said What?

It is visual art Wednesday and I was going to post a picture of a Pieta sent by a friend Megan (wait till next week), but in light of recent emails in which she and I engaged, I post the above.  For background, I received an email indicating that Obama gave a speech in which he was for reparations (which oddly, he did not say).  The email chain that ensued spiraled out of control; the bourgeois responded one to another, showing their true colors.

What does these pictures mean to you?  To see what they mean to me, see the comments.

And don’t forget to keep working on the most recent musical post, “Wait it Out”.

Last night, as I lay unsleeping, I felt my Creator's thunderingly-small voice saying that when I am before him, with all of the others who have placed their faith on nothing less, we will realize how helplessly impoverished we are. We will realize that we could not have achieved the heights of his riches because we were marred, physiologically scarred, from that great fall. That although I was worldly rich, and the man standing next to me in full glory was African poor, we were both the objects of a grander case of social work.

We, collectively speaking, are the Maker’s recipients of a most righteous social security plan.

The pictures I posted today are for my wife, and Megan, and others who have listened to race and class tainted rhetoric over the last week or so. Rhetoric that draws lines based upon class and color. Rhetoric that has adopted the excuse of merely “being honest.” Speakers that are convinced that the mask from Rusty’s iconic character of love (see comments on Train Wreck Redux) is more akin to a Grand Wizard’s Hood, and the twisted, statistic-laced arguments proceeding from the mouth-hole are called honesty.

This election cycle is sure to bring much race-based banter. I pray that when you engage in it, you recall that you are the impoverished of the Most High. And I pray that you remember that there is rarely any perfect fix to the human condition that we know is called sin. Then, when you respond, put yourselves in the shoes of the least of these; look through his eye-hole; speak through his mouth-hole.

Seth, we could only be of one mind because of the Holy Spirit. I hope you'll enjoy my most recent comments on that horrible email debate, they are of the same cloth as your comment. It shocked me to read your comment after having written it!

What I see in your pictures first and foremost is colors not mattering whatsoever. The children are playing together as they should - as God created them, different but very much alike. Oh how God loves diversity! Me too by the way.

To quote a favorite lyricist of mine, Bono :)

I do hope "all the colors will bleed into one"

I think really...truly...in Christ's eyes they do.

Man, you've really inspired me this week. I guess this what the Bible talks about when it says we should spur one another on. As iron sharpens iron...this has been a tough week for me. But a good one and I am very encouraged when I read your words and your wife's words. Although we haven't seen each other for years and not really ever had any sort of talk of substance ever until now...I feel like you two truly are a brother and a sister. Amazing.

Keep fighting the good fight.

i lament that my drilled brain looks at those pictures and thinks more about things like the rule of thirds and ambient light rather than the beautiful, heart-beating, chest-breathing subjects. visual art is all over the sides of my alley but sometimes i forget to feel while analyzing and you can't do that.

Melody,

Nice work on pulling out the rule of thirds. You know some stuff.

Seth, very nice! Get to it with some "fisticuffs" and love how you are inspiring people to "think alternatively" during this election cycle and the race baiting it has somehow, unfortunately, engendered.

I see beauty. Children. Lots of color.

Also, it doesn't strike me as odd that someone sent an email which stated Obama said something he actually did not say. Par for the course, no? Afterall, he's Muslim (in traditional Somali garb, mind you), unpatriotic, and full of wind if you believe what they desire to inject... I could kick a few someones in the arse that have been sending me a whole load of sh*%....

Can't wait to see you guys!

I see movement and change in those photographs. Lord willing both will continue to occur in this country and world.

the first picture I see children enjoying life now. In the back a storm coming. Perhaps bringing struggle? Growth? Maybe both.

The second picture shows a forward motion of the children playing together. They are growing together into adults.

Monster,
I like it. Thanks for contributing to the site. I like the idea of moving forward into adult hood. Leaving innocence behind and picking up... what?

Keep it coming. Glad you are here.
